This poem was taken from Confederate Veteran Magazine, Vol. 5, No. 6, June 1897, and was accompanied by the following note:

"For the benefit of Dr. Henri Blakemore, of Saltillo, Tenn., Gen. R..Pl. Coleman, of McAlester, Ind. T., sends the following poem, taken from Bugle Echoes' and composed by Frank Lee. The young soldier was a Mississippian and was killed in Virginia. Other poems of merit have been submitted, but lack of space forbids their publication at present."

Thanks to Allen Sullivant, Chief of Staff and Webmaster for the Tennessee Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, for submitting this poem.
