Although the common soldier certainly entertained lofty notions about what he was fighting
for and hoped desperately for the coming of Peace, this anonymous poem reveals what was often
first and foremost on his mind.
This poem was found in Lizzie Cary Daniel's 1893 Confederate Scrapbook.
